Design Parnterships
Princeton Comet Connection (PCC)
Princeton Comet Connection is a partnership between Princeton students and Community, Energy, and Technology in the Middle-East (Comet-ME). Comet-ME is a joint Palestinian-Israeli NGO which installs self-made wind turbines and solar panels in the West Bank to form and run mini-electric grids for villages without electricity. They currently provide roughly 1600 people with off-grid electricity in the West Bank. PCC students work closely with Comet to design engineering products to improve the quality of life for people living in Comet's partner communities. Past projects include designing a chest fridge-to-freezer converter which provided refrigeration at approximately 1/3 the cost and power usage.
Currently, PCC is working on designing a recipe for a home-brewed solenoid water pump to work with off-grid, renewable energy systems and writing open-source wind turbine optimization software. The water pump project was recently named a Princeton University Engineering Project in Community Service, a two-semester course for which students can receive academic credit for their work.
Visit Comet's website here for more information about their organization or PCC's blog page here for real-time updates about the projects. If you're interested in working on either of these projects, please contact PCC Project Manager Yan Wu.

Princeton Splash Connection (PSC)
Princeton Splash Connection is a partnership between Princeton students and Splash, an international NGO which provides clean drinking water and hand-washing water services for children in six countries across Asia. Splash currently serves 232,889 children.

PiCreate
PiCreate is a social enterprise aimed at creating a cheap educational computer for use in underprivileged areas of the world. They have partnered with Toclit, an orphanage in Kenya, and Coursera, an educational software company to create their first wave of prototypes to be implemented in the Fall of 2013.
